Over the last two years, I have been involved in many worth-while experiences through college from trips to extra work to gain personal and professional experience. From doing all of these extra projects I have done also allowed me to meet new and interesting people who work in the industry or could be a link to the industry who could be helpful in the future when applying for work within the industry. Some of them have taught me new skills that I have noted and will aim to use further down the line when I go to uni and eventually look for a job within the industry.
Through trips planned by the college, I have met a man named Scott who works in radio at Sunderland University and instructed us on how the radio works and how the process works in the modern day and how beneficial it can be to work in the radio. As well as Scott, I met a woman who works in the film and TV department, she instructed us on how they use equipment behind the camera on a news broadcast and to show how simple it actually is with some equipment. When we made our own broadcast, she allowed me to direct what happened with the cameras and when to swap between each camera to make the broadcast more professional and higher standard. On a trip to Teesside University we met two journalists who used to be students there, one became a freelance journalist who taught how freelance works and the other now works for LadBible and he was explaining how he got the job there and what it's like working for a well-known media company.
On another trip to Tyneside Cinema, we created our own short film trailer and the people who work there have real experience when it comes to working on the set of a film or TV show. They gave me a real look at how a set works as well as a cast and crew. This trip also gave me experience into directory work and how challenging it can be whilst on set to keep everyone under control as well as make sure everything runs efficiently.
A part from trips, I have done some work within college or been part of extra work that I was told about through college. In September we were told that the drama students were going to be doing a performance for Halloween in Sunderland and we were asked if some students would go down on a Thursday afternoon to film their rehearsals. After about 5 or 6 weeks of filming their rehearsals, me and a small group of people went to Sunderland to film their final performance during a parade that took place for Halloween. After filming we then had to edit all of the footage and send it to the drama department so they could see their performance and see how they have improved. Working with drama students is interesting being a media student as you could be working with people that could be actors/actresses in the future and it gives you experience on what it is like to work with people who are aiming to play characters for their career.
Overall, these people that I have met and worked with have given me enough experience to feel confident with myself and my abilities within media and will feel more comfortable at uni working amongst other film students who might not have as much experience which means I will be able to help other people reach a higher standard of production work. All of the skills and techniques that these people have taught me, I have tried to use in my own work to show that I have learned something and am eager to test new skills and abilities within my own productions, anything I have not used yet I will aim to try and use and progress with during my years at university.

Personal Profile
I am an aspiring student who is aiming to achieve highly within the Media Industry primarily as a Director or Producer within film and TV sector of the industry. I really enjoy the idea of being behind a camera and guiding groups of people to push past their limits and work as hard as the can to create something that we can all be proud of when we finish.
I consider myself to be very creative, passionate and determined when it comes to film and TV, this is because I find them to be great distractions from the real world and could be classed as an "escape" from their problems. I want to be a person who creates these escapes and inspire people to be more than themselves and become an influence on the future generations.
I like to keep myself busy and I know that working on a set can be one of the busiest jobs in the modern world. This is because the Media Industry is one of the worlds fastest paced careers in the world as you might be working on more than one project at a time and you always have to be ready and prepped for your responsibility. I feel like I'd fit into this industry as I like to be busy and have something to do and working on a film would be my first choice on doing so.
I am aiming to start University in September to further my knowledge within film and TV production with the hope that it leads to a job within the industry when I complete my studies.

My Produced Work
1. Lightsaber Visual FX
In Level 2 (2017-2018) we learned how to do some new visual FX that they use in many films from flying to the lightsaber. We learned how tedious it can be for professional editors to create a light up blade that moves very quick and make it look effortless. We were unaware that you have to go frame-by-frame with a mask over a stick and moving it into the right position for the full length of the video, once you've done that you can add any colour to mask to get the famous glow of the Kyber crystals which create the famous weapon. I decided to make it red as this is my favourite colour.
Following the lightsaber we moved onto creating the split-screen effect which is where you have the same person on the screen at the same time but they do different things like the film Legend starring Tom Hardy when he played the Kray twins. We used two people standing opposite places and recorded them reacting and then swapped the people around and had them repeat the previous action then edited them together.
3. Unsolved (Short Film)
At the end of my first year I released my first ever short movie with a small group of friends which we called Unsolved. It was about a cop who gets killed whilst undercover and his partner goes bad-cop and seeks revenge against the people who killed his friend. This was my first real experience with editing footage and sound into a short movie.
4. Harton & Westoe Boxing Club
Last year we were asked to create a promotional video for a local boxing club as one of our college units. We were asked to take photo's and video's of people training as well ourselves using equipment so we could get even more footage and content to include in our promotional videos.
5. Imagine (Fan Video)
At the start of my last year of college, we were asked to make a small video about anything we wanted so, I decided to make a music video for the famous song Imagine but covered by a Swedish Musician. I wanted to make it more emotional by making it about humanity and how we should cherish everyone we know and what we have in this life and not take things for granted.
6. Coin Toss
With a training lecturer, we were taught various new camera techniques and editing techniques. After learning these techniques we were asked to recreate a famous film scene including a coin toss and we tried to edit it to make it an exact recreation of the scene, I added a black and white filter to make the scene more tense as well as some more tense music.
Just before Christmas we took a trip to Sunderland University to work in the film and TV studios where we created a fake news report about a footballer being signed to Sunderland, when asked what roles we wanted to take up, I was very eager to take the role of Director as it is the job I would like to be when I look for work within the Media Industry.
For one of our exams in our final year, we had to create a small dramatic video with specific specifications to make the video worthy of reaching the goal of the exam requirements. I decided to make my drama video on the feud between the media and photography department at college over the studio and how annoying it can be for the media department.
As another trip with college, we went to Tyneside cinema to create our own fictional short film trailer. My group made a spoof trailer for a film called "Nose"feratu based off the original vampire horror film Nosferatu. I was the director of this small group, I was in-charge of positioning everyone in the correct place, lighting, costumes etc and it was successful for only getting a few hours to plan, record and edit all together before the deadline.
1. Happy Town
Just like Noseferatu, I helped make another short film trailer based off the classic movie "The Wicker Man" it was called "Happy Town" I did the narration and also acted in this video as many characters from a local pub goer to a cult member. This was my first real experience on working on a small movie set.
2. Four of a Kind
Me and a small group of our friends decided to enter a small film festival competition (which might not happen) we came up with the idea to make the film about a poker game that gets heated and ends with a fatal injury (not real) and we never got to film the rest which was a shame but it still turned out alright.
3. Daniel, You Have Failed This City?
I bought myself a bow and I have a green hoodie and I really wanted to test it out in a video to see how we could make it look (the arrows weren't real) it was a small spoof on the TV show Arrow from 2012.
4. Halloween Performance 2019
The drama department at college did a performance in Sunderland for a Halloween parade, we were asked to record the rehearsals as well as go to the final performance in the middle of Sunderland and then edit all of the footage together to send back to the drama department to use in their work.
5. Cereal Killer: Spoiled Milk
One of our main units this year was to create a longer short film than last year, my friend made his film a sequel to a film he created last year but wanted to add more drama and test new editing effects and styles to make his film more realistic and entertaining to the audience. I played a few characters and tried my best to make it believable for the audience.

Unit 11 - Radio Pre-Production
At the start of the academic year, we introduced with a new task which is to create a radio drama based on a play produced at our college named "Parallel" before we got to start the actual production, we had to create a pre-production as a way to practice with the recording room, equipment and editing software. All of this was to prepare us for a larger project as we would have to record multiple scenes from the play then edit them all together in group to make it easier for us. The whole purpose of the pre-production is the system that leads to the production faze easier as you will have a specific guide follow and will lead to less stress in the long run.
Pre-Production
Me and my partner had scenes 24-30 in the play but we only recorded the audio for one scene as we didn't have to record much all of the scenes so that we didn't have as much stress as well as practising with everything to make sure that we could do it thoroughly and efficiently so that we could practise setting up the equipment so that when it came to actually recording (never got to record due to lockdown) we would take less time to set up all of the equipment such as the microphone and the sound recording software which is the same software used to edit the audio (Logic Pro X) one thing we had to do every time we recorded our pre-production, was to place a USB stick or SD card into the computer so that we could automatically save our sound recordings directly into our device, so we could move the audio into the class to edit on our Mac's. It took my group about three weeks to record all of the audio that we needed and then we began the editing process which took a few weeks longer to complete.

It took my group about three weeks to record all of the audio that we needed and then we began the editing process which took a few weeks longer to complete.
Once I got the audio onto Logic Pro, I began to cut out all of the mistakes, bloopers/outtakes and long silences between the lines that we were reading. Once I'd gotten through all of the cutting of the audio tracks, I began to move the tracks into order to match with the script so that the story flows as smoothly as it does in actual production. One of the ways I made it seem more like a conversation rather than script reading, was by leaving small gaps between each audio track this was to give the impression that both of the characters in this scene needed a split second to think about how they could respond to what the other character had just said and to also hint that they did not want to upset the other character in any way. I tried putting the tracks together to see what it would sound like, but it didn't flow as smoothly as it does with small breaks between each section of audio. In the background of the scene that I was editing, I added in quiet jazz music as this scene was meant to be located inside a house so music was included to create the effect that this household liked the calming and catchy music of jazz. I added some sound effects into my piece to make it more effective and to practice with the software, some of the effects I used were:
Door opening, someone entering and closing the door - the reason for this was to have a small introduction to the scene so that it doesn't just jump straight into the dialogue and the drama of this scene.
Keys getting placed down - this was also to add to the introduction so that we know that the person who entered the house had a key so must live in the house and has been out so they have come home after a long day.
Baby crying - throughout this scene one of the characters keeps telling his wife to keep a baby quiet, this led to a really easy sound track being used of a baby crying to create more immersion for the audience as well as create an understanding as to why one of the characters is annoyed as some people find a baby's crying to be annoying.
Backhand sound effect - for this sound effect I thought with the scene being an argument and with both characters getting more and more annoyed, I thought eventually the man would have reached his breaking point and with this being set in the 40s or 50s some men still struck women and I thought this in this scene the character could have been so annoyed that he turned the argument physical rather than just using their words.
The microphone we used to record our scene, was a Tonar podcast microphone and the reason we used this microphone was because my partner had just bought it off me and he wanted more reasons to use it and once we figured out it could be connected to the college equipment we decided to use it. With the microphone being a podcast microphone, it came with an adjustable arm so we could move the microphone around and get it into a position that worked for us. On top of this, the microphone has good audio quality as well as not being able to pick up background noise so the audio that gets received is crystal clear.

Unit 2: Working in the Creative Industry
The Media Industries
The UK has one of the largest media industries on the planet which has led to many great advancements in media over the last few decades and will continue to do so in the future. Since the beginning of the media industry, there have been many branches of media that have been revealed and became a global sensation that has a genre that appeals to anyone and everyone. Films and television have may branches that can be led from a film or TV show, films can be adapted into TV shows and vise-versa another form of film and TV is animation which is the process of turning drawing or objects into moving pictures to create a sense that it's actually happening with a video camera rather than just photos been taken and pieced together. After films and TV, publishing is a large form of media which has always been a large part to society especially newspapers which were created to inform the public on news of their country, global news so that they can stay up to date with events of the world for those type of people who prefer to read rather than watch TV to learn what is happening in the world. Books have been around for centuries and in the modern day they are still a large part of people's lives because they are written to entertain as well as distract people from the problems of the real world. Many older people prefer books rather than technology as they grew up reading books and have more memories with books and it also adds the feeling of nostalgia from their childhood, spending hours upon hours reading books. Although, in the modern era the internet has become a large and dependable aspect of people's lives that everything has began to covert to a digital format that newspapers and books are starting to become obsolete as you can download newspapers online and can add books to a kindle which takes up less space in luggage if you're travelling. Both digital and print formats have their advantages and disadvantages, for example with films you get a proper visualisation of what is happening and it can be more enjoyable but you it's better to watch something in one go to gain the full experience of what you're watching whereas with books you can take your time with it and can go back to it whenever you want or can but in some cases, reading can be seen as boring and time consuming.
The Film Industry
Section A
SA - (1)
The film industry has grown exponentially over the years and there has been a higher ad higher demand of jobs that are required within the film industry. In many films today there can be as little as a couple of hundred of people up to over a thousand people all working on the same film all of these people working in one industry is incredible.
On a set for a film or TV show there is always a director which is probably the largest and well-known role within film and TV.
By definition, a director is "a person who controls the making of a film and supervises the actors and technical crew". The director is one of the most crucial jobs in a film production, without the director the entire production would fall a part. Directors are often put under huge amounts of stress and pressure as everything happens on and off set rests on the directors shoulders, they run everything to make everything run smoothly, they have to storyboard each shot to make it as perfect as it can be, they get involved with everything from the cast to the cameramen to make sure that the shot they're trying to capture is as perfect as it can be, their main role is to take what is happening on paper (script) and transfer what has been written into a feature length film with perfect footage through and through. Many directors have to start from a different role within the industry to build experience and skill to rise through the ranks to make it director standard. James Wan (Director of the Saw franchise) hadn't done much but he and friend created a film set in one room and it kicked off the Saw series since then he has moved on to directing many well known films such as: Fast and Furious 7, Aqua-man, Insidious and many other films but, both Furious 7 and Aqua-man both grossed over $1 billion which made him the 8th director to hit that milestone.
A producer is also a high prioritised role within the film industry they oversee everything within a films creation, they're involved with pre-production, production and post production they have to plan and coordinate everything from selecting the script, writing, directing and editing and they also have to arrange the finances for everything within the film. A big surprise to most people is that the producer actually makes more money than the director and that the producers has to select and hire a director for the film they're planning to release.
SA - (2)
Since the internet has become a massive part of the modern world, society has become more advanced than most people would have ever thought. Since the internet and technology has become far more advanced over the last two decades films and TV shows have been able make the fictional become more realistic and enjoyable for the audience and brings them back for more movies or another season of a show. With all of these advancements, recruiting has become much easier within industry as it has had to adapt with every small change within technology and the internet and it has become easier to recruit crew members for a film as you could message them directly or locate a crew member through an agency to see who they can recommend for a position. being recruited will be a huge benefit because you will get to meet new characters and crew members, which will broaden your horizons and will open doors for your future and give you more opportunities for future projects this will also give you more experience. Since the internet makes it easier to connect to people as there are multiple social media's that you can use, such as: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and many more. Social media is also a great way to learn many things about a person, like their interests, relationship status this makes it easier for an interview over a social media rather than face-to-face because you will get to know them a lot quicker and easier.
SA - (3)
Every company have the same forms over employment the main and best type being full-time which is when a employee works for a certain amount of hours per week after being agreed upon by the employer. Full-time workers gain access to benefits such as: sick days, maternity leave health insurance and many more. A great thing about being a full-time worker, is that when you leave work on a Friday evening and you will return the following Monday and they know that they'll be able to retire in the future, full-time make people feel safer with their career because they would have to do something pretty bad to lose their job.
After full-time we have part-time which is where you ill only work a certain amount of hours over a certain amount days in a week. Students are the biggest advocates for part-time work as it gives them access to experience, money and leaves them time for their studies it also depends on the schedule of the students to see how flexible they are and if the employer can agree to the hours. Part-time also doesn't cause as much stress because you do't get deadlines for the day you just have to get done what you can.
After part-time, we then have zero hour contracts which is where an employee does not work a certain amount of hours rather they work when they need to or are asked to by their employer. Zero hour contracts are not always a good thing because you wouldn't be gaining that much experience since you would not be working enough to gain experience as well as this, with not having a regular work schedule, this can lead to laziness as well as poor living conditions as you might not receive that good of pay and since you won't be working enough your income will be very low.
SA - (4)
Since social media has become a necessity to modern day life, it is no surprise that the media industry will use social media as a tool to locate, meet and hire new clients and use it to find new and upcoming talent e.g an editor, singer or actor etc. One thing that many employers look for when trying to recruit a new team member, is to look at some of their past work to get a feel for how this person operates and how skilled they are an or see if they have the potential to be better. A show reel, is a perfect way for people to show of their work, this can include anything that a person has been involved with such as, directing, acting, writing, editing or producing etc, people normally include their best projects, this gives any employer a visual representation of what they are capable of and what they can bring to the table for any future projects.
SA - (5)
The final step for getting a job and probably one of the most stressful is a job interview, this is when you get to meet your potential boss face-to-face so they can get a feel for what type of person you are, the best way to make yourself appear like a good choice for the job is to be formal and be presentable, it also helps to be punctual and appear to be eager. Ways to do this is to be on time for your interview, dress respectfully and appear confident. Show that you have experience by giving somewhat detailed answers to show that you have the knowledge about the job you're applying for, this shows the employer that you're willing and able to do whatever it takes to get the job and prove your worth.
SA - (6+7)
Appearing employable is what everyone's aim should be, some of the ways to do that is to gain more experience within your chosen field as well as improve and adapt your skills to fit with the environment that you're working in. Another good way to show your experience is to update your CV as often as you can after you finished a project so that future employers can see what experience you have gained and if you have potential working with them in the future. Updating your CV and putting yourself out there as often as you can proves that you're ambitious and determined to get where you want to be within the industry, doing all of this shows your employer that you're someone to keep around or keep in the books as a first person in their next project and it doesn't prove you're better then everyone else it just proves that you're skilled in your field and have a talent for what you do. In my personal experience, whenever there is external project or access to go o a trip to do something within industry which will gain me experience, I always put my name forward as I know that any little experience will help prepare me for the future with any and all projects I hope to a part of within the film industry, specifically in film directing and or producing or editing.
Section B
SB - (1)
Various structures confide within the industry, these structures have been put in place to make it so that all jobs big or small all have their impact on anything they're involved in. A great example is radio which in the modern day, is on the decrease because of the increase of the use and rising popularity of social media such as Facebook and Twitter etc. A part from social media, radio is also being pushed out by music apps as well such as Spotify which is perhaps the largest music streaming app on the planet and it also makes it makes it easier to find new music uninterrupted if you have paid for premium. Radio is the audio version of the news which uses visual as well as audio this is better than the news in ways for example, you can listen to the radio anywhere whereas the news you mostly need to be around TV. Both radio and TV are public service forms of media because they're designed to entertain as well as inform, instruct and guide people with everyday life.
SB - (2)
Many people underestimate the magnitude of the media industry, the USA is the leading country with media they hire millions or even billions of employees. In the modern day, the media industry has a massive grossing income with companies bring in billions of dollars every year. Perhaps the largest film company in the US is Disney who owns so many of the modern film companies such as Marvel and Lucasfilm (Star Wars) all of these companies bring in billions of dollars every year which in total probably make Disney trillions of dollars which is no surprise to think that Disney is one of the largest companies on the planet and everyone knows the name Disney.
SB - (3+4)
Products that get released in the modern day have to be unbiased, appealing to everyone and user friendly so that everyone can experience the product in their own way. Promoting a product in the modern day is risky because you have to show how user friendly it is and try to not make it offend anyone which is difficult in this era because people get offended easily by anything and everything. You have to be careful what you're promoting because of all of the "groups" in the world, from religion, race and many others. Some of these groups care deeply about their beliefs and nationality and there has been a lot of offensive stuff have been said and done over the years in adds so it is understandable why many people get offended easily so adds have to be as friendly to the public s the product they're trying to promote.

Single Camera - Film
Pre-production, is the process of planning and preparing all of the equipment and miscellaneous items that you require for the production stage of our project.
(November 2019) Cast List - The cast list shows the people that are expected to be seen or heard throughout the duration of the production.
(Nov/Dec 2019) Storyboard - A storyboard, is a visual aid to the crew of the project, to assist them in creating the scene and making sure that they use the camera angle and shot type. This will assist me in deciding what shots I would like to try and or want to use throughout the duration of my film.
(January 2020) Risks - The risk assessment, outlines all potential risks and hazards that could befall the cast and crew whilst shooting the project, the whole point of the risk is assessment is to process what risks could be possible, how dangerous they are and how the to make the scene safe for everyone involved.
(November 2019) Prop List - Props, are accessories that can be seen within a film or TV show, e.g. a gun, they are normally an inanimate object that is used by a character. A prop list is used to highlight what props are going to used throughout the production.
(November 2019) Character Release Forms - The character release forms, are for the people in the production giving their permission to be recorded and published to online services (YouTube).

(October 2019) Script- Scene - This is part of my film between scenes 2 and 3 which I wrote after the script was finished and forgot to put in the original script.
Proposal - (Jan/Feb 2020)
Synopsis
For this year, we have been asked to create a new short movie this year the films have to be around the 15 minute mark. We get the choice to choose the genre and create the storyline for the film. For my project I aiming to make the genre based around the "Action" genre to add more action and suspense compared to last year's short film. Before we can start the production stage of our short films, we first have to plan everything about our film from the script to the storyboard to the risk assessment. We have to plan, execute and evaluate as well as log everything that we do in chronological order, to see how much time we spend on everything from the pre-production to the evaluation.
Logline
Order is about a hitman who is sent to assassinate a high profile target and his personal body guard, when the bodyguard gets the better of the assassin the interrogate him for information where we learn how long he's been at this. The bodyguard betrays his boss and fights the assassin but is killed by his boss instantly followed by the hitman killing his primary target.
Screenplay Structure
Act one: This is the opening to the film, where we meet the protagonist and the antagonists and start to get an idea of what this short film is about and what could potentially happen throughout the duration.
Act two: Act two is the largest scene of my film, we see an interrogation between the protagonist and the antagonists who are trying to extract information from the hitman, they succeed to some extent before something unexpected happens.
Act three: This is the end of the film, where the protagonist chases the bodyguard to an unknown location and they have their inevitable rematch when the primary target interrupts and ends the fight but then is killed by the hitman who is glad all of this is over.
Characters
Logan Caleb: is a young hitman under the employ of a classified private military who is assigned to kill two targets to prove his worth to the organization, we learn almost immediately that the assignment is personal for him. He is determined to prove his worth both to his leaders and himself.
Shawn Letterman: the leader of a massive known criminal organization, hotheaded as well as short tempered. He feels like he is unstoppable and that his company will last for generations and that he and his company are invincible.
Joel Jones: is the personal bodyguard to Shawn Letterman, strong and dangerous. He has killed most if not all of the people who have gone up against him, has a secret which we learn near the end of the film before the fight scene.
William Small: is a scientist from Logan Caleb's past, we learn that logan's tattoo is a mark that was branded onto him when he was twelve during his trials on becoming a weapon for Shawn Letterman's company.
Mysterious Figure: nothing is known about this character, all we know is he is assigned to kill Logan Caleb, the twist is that they both work for the same organization. Their face is never seen.
Woman' Voice: she is in command of Logan's organization and she gives the orders and the assignments to those whose thinks is worthy of the task. We never see who they actually are.
Film Treatment
We see the luminous flashing of a light and hear the sounds of a door opening and closing, there is an unrecognisable figure open a box with a book inside, they begin to read the contents of the book. This is where we begin to discover that this is a target book and this figure is an assassin as well as the book, we notice he pulls out two photographs of his two targets.
The two targets are having a private conversation when they are interrupted by a scientist who innocently asks for a signature on a project. When they begin their conversation again, we learn that they have a big plan to create a new form of weapon. They are suddenly interrupted by the assassin who then gets into a fight with one of the targets and loses.
The assassin wakes up tied a chair, he realises that he is being looked at by his targets who begin to ask him questions, this is an interrogation. They try to ask him for his name and what he is doing trying to kill them both. Afterwards the begin to ask him about his past and how he came to be what he is. Just before the leader asks another question, his bodyguard unexpectedly knocks him out and challenges the assassin to a final duel.
The assassin chases his second target to a disclosed area and they begin to fight and get solid hits on one another, they both get the upper hand on each other but the assassin gets his target into a position that he can't come back from but just before the assassin is about to end the job, the first target kills the wrong man by shooting him. He is about to kill the assassin but he gets to a gun dropped by the other target and shoots his first target ending his mission.
Target Audience/USP
The target audience for my short film falls under the "thrill-seeker" category of the demographic. I feels like it falls under this category as it has elements that could draw people in and want them to keep them wanting to watch as the fight scenes, story, characters and dialog.
The Unique Selling Point of this film, is that it has a few elements that have been inspired by other films and a few aspects from various video games. These elements will make viewers recognise where they have been inspired, people will like some of the noticeable features taken from other area's and put into this one short film, the film also follows some cliche's from action films like the fight scenes and the character that is always short with people and angry.
(November 2019) Cast List - The cast list shows the people that are expected to be seen or heard throughout the duration of the production.

The Importance of Sound Editing
The Importance of Sound Editing
Task 1
Why does sound need to be edited?
In TV and film, sound must be edited, treated and cleaned up after a recording for multiple reasons. A lot of the time when recording audio in a large room or outdoor area, there is a high risk of echoes which disrupt the sound or it could be windy or heavy rain which will dominate the audio over the person in the recording who is speaking. The audio will need to be altered so that the voices are clear enough and have priority over any background noise which interrupts with the scene.
A process called ADR (Automated Dialog Replacement) in many films, must be taken into consideration with multiple scenes in a single film. This may have to be done for a number of reasons, one of the main being that the background, ambience or dialog itself may be too quiet and cannot be heard in editing so the sound crew and the actor(s) in the scene need to go into a room with a screen. They re-watch the scene and match up their dialog and any sounds they make to then replace the original audio of the scene so it becomes more clear for the eventual audience.
In a factual environment, such as an interview there are many reasons to edit the sound and dialog because in an interview situation, the interviewer or interviewee can repeatedly use the filler sound “erm” or “uh” whilst thinking of a question to ask or answering the question they were just asking. It is all about keeping the audience’s attention and people keep stuttering and slurring when speaking, the audience can lose interest so, they edit the audio to make the interview fluent and smooth so that the audience is keep interested and gripped on watching the interview.
In this video, Daisy Ridley uses the filling term “erm” before she starts telling a story. This filler was left in to show that her reaction to Graham’s question is genuine and they aren’t reading from scripts.
Whereas in a fictional environment, sound is edited a lot because this is people’s career where they’ll play a character and keep tripping up on their words or making mistakes which will need to be edited out and stored in a file called a “blooper” they will repeat the same line multiple times until the director of the project finds the perfect take on the line and will continue with the scene for the next line or next scene. Once the filming has been finished, the sound is edited in properly, this means that the score is placed in the duration at the appropriate times. In the editing stage they also add the sound effects for the footage using Foley to make the audio for what is happening on screen sound more realistic.
During this interview, you can hear the audience behind the cameras laughing, clapping and cheering these are always quite loud even though they're behind the cameras this could suggest that there are hidden microphones in the stands so that the audience can be heard clearly so they aren't quiet since they're positioned behind the cameras and aren't real seen on the show. The audience sounds could also be edited into the show once it has ended so that it can be made a bit more clear and set to the right volume so that they don't overpower the audio that Graham and his guests microphones are emitting.

In this scene from Ip Man (2008), the music has been added to make this scene seem more tense and brutal as well as dark to show how the main character is not himself in this particular scene. The Foley sounds have been added to show the power that this character has, they use a piece of meat for some of the hit sound effects, the last fighter to be defeated in this scene gets hit repeatedly and it sounds like a hammer and nail against a piece of wood. The sound effects also sound somewhat like a cartoon in places.
The reason that the sound effects for the contact of each hit might sound like this, will be to imply and hint at the amount of power that this character has as well as using the audio and music to visualize how angry this character is and that he is using these Japanese fighters as a form of training and stress release as well as revenge because of what they did to his friend. Just as the fighting starts as well as the last fighter, you can hear a loud and distinct scream coming from the main character which tells the audience that he (physically and mentally) has lost all patience and calmness and has taped into his darker side and is now on the offense rather than the defense.
All of the sounds that can be heard throughout this scene, is used to create a dramatic effect because this scene is very dark and dramatic and the audio emphasizes the drama and the darkness of this small scene.

Task 2
Sound crew or audio engineers a mixer to mix and master music for a film or TV etc. They will also a visualizer so they can see the frequency and pitch of the track that they’re creating. Many will use iMacs for the sound editing, as Macs are compatible with many pieces of software and hardware which will help them produce their score and soundtrack for the project they are helping to create with music.
PC/Mac
In the industry, there is such a controversy between PC and Mac because they both have their pros and cons. For instance PC has the advantage for price because PC's are much more affordable compared to Macs and their components/specs are also cheaper. The better thing about about Macs is that they are more industry standard and are compatible for a lot more industry standard software such as "Logic Pro X".
Both Mac and PC can use sound editing software, they share some softwares whereas they also have softwares that will only run on that particular equipment.
Sound editing softwares for Mac:
Audacity. ... WavePad. ... OcenAudio. ... PreSonus Studio One Prime. ... Avid Pro Tools First. ... GarageBand. ... Reaper. ... Adobe Audition.
Sound editing softwares for PC:
Adobe Audition. ... Audacity. ... OcenAudio. ... Acoustica. ... Amadeus Pro. ... Fission. ... Hindenburg Journalist. ... Sound Forge Audio Studio 12.
As we can see, both Mac and PC have their own sound manipulation softwares (Mac - GarageBand) (PC - Acoustica) but, we can also see that they share a lot of softwares that can be used on both platforms (Adobe Audition, Audacity, OcenAudio).
There are multiple different sound editing techniques used in the modern day of music and sound work. A few examples of sound editing are:

There are multiple different sound editing techniques used in the modern day of music and sound work. A few examples of sound editing are:
“Key framing Levels” - In media production, a key frame or key frame is a location on a timeline which marks the beginning or end of a transition.
“Ambience/Room Tone” – Ambient sound (AKA ambient audio, ambience, atmosphere, atmos or background noise) means the background sounds which are present in a scene or location. ... Ambient sound is very important in video and film work.
“Crossfades” - make a picture or sound appear or be heard gradually as another disappears or becomes silent.
“Panning” - Panning is the spread of a monaural signal in a stereo or multi-channel sound field - it is critical to the makeup of the stereo image.
In many films and TV Shows, all of these sound editing techniques can be noticed. A good example of this is the opening scene of “Saving Private Ryan” where a grenade detonates near Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) and his hearing gets disorientated and there is a constant ringing which is a symbol for the consequence of war and that struggle to survive. The ringing and muffled sound adds to the effect and represents the realism of war by showing the effects it has mentally as well as physically on a person who has had to experience war. This scene is very iconic since the film premiered in 1998, but this small part with Captain Miller is a very good example of sound editing as the disorientated sound right after the explosion was one of the biggest leaps in sound editing probably since the Lightsaber from Star Wars.
When editing the sound for a film, the sound crew will either add the Foley sounds or the music first. This will be because they will need to observe the audio to see if the music needs to be quietened down when there’s Foley or dialog to know if sounds need to be made quieter or louder depending on the situation on screen and the intensity of what the audience will be seeing.
A perfect example of the procedures is in the final encounter between Neo and Agent Smith in The Matrix Revolutions because in this fight scene, the music changes between loud and quiet when people are speaking or there are key sound effects being used e.g. the weather (rain and thunder) as well as the sound effects being used when one of the characters takes a hit or blocks an attack. All three Matrix films have this trait, where when something important happens the music either gets louder or quieter for sound effects or Foley work, this adds to the realism and has more of an impact on the audience.
